1. Identify the main keyword of your website

One of the first things you're going to want to do is identify the primary keyword or phrase of your website. For example; if you're a local store selling shoes your primary keyword or phrase it might be “shoe shop” or if you're a local bar and grill, your primary keyword may be “restaurant”.

Once you've identified a primary keyword or phrase you can use this to optimise the webpages within your website.

2. Use a keyword tool

Using a keyword tool can help you identify new key words you might want your website to better rank for. There are many tools out that you can take advantage of just hop online do a quick Google search for the best ones.

3. Create a blog

Creating a blog is one of the most important things you can do for websites SEO. Adding content to your website regularly helps Google to better identify the purpose of your website and the search terms it should be ranking for. A blog is also useful for providing customers with information as well as providing you with something to post on your social media channels.

Think of it this way; when you search the Internet for something, Google trawls all websites and tries to identify which is most relevant to your search. A website that contains more content in the form of blog will often rank higher than one without a blog. Why? Because it has more information on the searched for topic than, say, a website without a blog.

4. Keep your blog up to date

Post on your blog regularly. We advise posting on your blog at least once per week. You don't need to post every single day but do try to keep it updated reasonably often.

5. Pinpoint and research your competitors

Researching at your competitors is one of the best things to do in order to get ahead of them. Check out the strategies that they making use of; try to find them on Google and see what search terms they’re ranking for, take a look at their Google My Business page and see if it's been optimised properly and check out their social media. 6. Index your site through Google Search console

Set your site up and index it through Google Search console. You'll need to create an account, submit your site for indexing and submit your site map.

Don't forget to re-index any pages of your website when you make changes to them.

7. Identify your best keywords

Once your site has started getting good amount of organic traffic you'll be able to use Google Search console to identify your top performing keywords. Once you've got these you can optimise your site with them, as well as your blog posts and articles so that you can drive maximum benefits from the search terms.

8. Correctly set up your site’s page titles

Page titles are really important SEO factor. You should make sure that each page on your website is provided with a page title and the title correctly matches the pages content. The titles should be short and catchy so that they are captivating and you need to make sure each title on your pages is unique.

9. Create internal and external links (backlinks)

Link building is a fairly well-known SEO element but did you know you should create both internal and external links? As well as getting other websites to link back to your website, you should create links throughout your site connecting pages together. This is especially important in your article or blog posts. Find text (preferably text that is the same or similar to your desired keywords) and where possible link this text back to pages on your website. For example if we mentioned SEO services on website in a blog article we would link the text “SEO services” to our SEO services page.

10. Take advantage or organic traffic
