SEO Content Audit.

Using data as a backbone for improving content.

What’s Included?

Our content and technical audits are manually conducted by Chloe & Josh in-house. We don’t rely on automated software to make a bunch of basic recommendations which are often not necessary or technically correct.

We review your content page by page, making use of a range of tools and make recommendations in all of the following areas.

Technical Recommendations

  • A 404 error is the standard HTTP status code, meaning a page cannot be found. Typically, users see this error when they click on a link that leads to a non-existent page.

This error is most often caused by:

    • incorrectly constructed link

    • a page that has been moved to a new address

    • a page that has been deleted

A large number of 404 errors can be caused by a virus attack (for example, placing doorways on the site).

We’ll check your site for 4xx errors and implement fixes for any found.

  • 5xx errors are caused by technical problems on the software or server-side and return a response code of 500-510.

We’ll check for 5xx errors across your site and make recommendations for fixes.

  • "Not Responding" pages are pages that did not receive a response from the server when requested.

The "Not Responding pages" error can be displayed, for example, when a web page does not load correctly or if a response timed out.

We’ll check your site for non-responding pages and make recommendations if found.

  • Site loading speed is now one of the key ranking factors for Google, and this trend is only set to continue over the coming years.

We’ll test your website speed and either:

Implement recommendations for Wordpress or Squarespace websites.

or, make recommendations for you to forward to your web developer if you’re utilising a platform other than Wordpress or Squarespace.

  • Search engines process only a limited number of redirects. According to the data found, Google redirects up to 5 links. If there are more, Google won’t follow the link and will not index the website pages.

We’ll check your site for redirects and make and implement recommendations based on our findings.

  • We’ll run a quick check on your website security to make sure everything is in check here. We will make recommendations if we find anything amiss here.

SEO Recommendations

  • Before we can do anything we need to map your keywords.

We take every URL on your website and map it to your “seed keywords” and secondary keywords for each page.

We then look at the most popular question search terms around each of these keywords (this assists in content creation further down the line and targeting featured snippets (see below).

Finally, we map out any other related URL’s and identify your cornerstone content. This is useful for starting to create a strong internal linking structure in the next stage.

  • We’ll evaluate all the metadata and headings on the pages of your site look into.

We do this manually as we don’t just want to report on pages where meta tags or headings are missing (this is what automated tools will generally detect).

We also want to make recommendations and implement recommendations where this data exists but isn’t necessarily correct based on that page's target keyword.

For example, if you have a page targeting “carpet cleaning in Lewisham” and your H1 is currently “award winning business”, because an H1 is in place, it likely won’t be detected in an automated audit as an issue. However, your H1 here should be something like “Carpet Cleaner in Lewisham” to signal to Google this is what this page is about and what this page should rank for.

  • Comparing the length of your content to the top 10 other websites that rank for the primary (seed) keyword/s for the page gives us an idea of whether your content is really long enough to compete.

We should be clear here that content length is not the be-all and end-all. But its an important consideration in the overall “seo formula” to make that page rank.

  • Similar to content length, we’ll look at how the structure of your content varies from the current ranking pages. We’ll look for patterns within those existing ranking pages and compare this to your content. We’ll then advise on changes based on our findings.

  • We’ll take a look into your keyword density and the questions answered by your content. Have you covered all you need to in the piece? How does this compare to the other existing ranking pages?

We’ll make recommendations depending on our findings.

  • Featured snippets are sections on SERP that offers brief answers that are the best answer to the query at hand in Google's opinion.

They are a way great for you to outrank your competitors, as these answers usually come from pages that aren't even ranked on the first result page.

You want to target question-based queries intentionally. This is because Google is currently seeking to increase its stickiness by providing answers to popular questions directly inside the search result page.

Terms such as why, have, which, who, what, why and when makes up a large chunk of queries earning snippets. We look into your existing data as well as using keyword research tools to find potential featured snippets to target.
